“You can’t hire someone else to do your push-ups for you” Jim Rohn.
I learnt from Jim Rohn that taking full responsibility of my own life means I need to acknowledge that there are things where I am the only one who has control and who can change them. No one will ever come and tell me what my dream is and what to need to do to achieve it. No one can eat live food on my behalf so I become healthy. No one will take care of my relationship so I can have great bond with the people I love and care for. It is simply me. It is my own responsibility. My own duty. And until the day when I take action in all the different areas which are important to me, I will never be able to change, achieve what I really want in life, or very simply, live the life on my own standards.

“If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
I heard this quote first time from Viktor Frankl in a video when he was presenting to a group of students at a university about the importance of meaning in people’s life. When he gave a metaphor illustrating that people must be seen as their best to become their best, the students laughed. Frankl replied that if they truly understood his points, they wouldn’t laugh. He continued saying that this is not his saying but it is what Goethe said. Amazing enough, I have came across this idea so many times in my readings. I remember Nathaniel Branden, a prominent psychologist and bestselling author, talked about something similar. He said that part of any therapy is seeing people as their best which will consequently make them recognize that they are so, that they have the seed of greatness even if everyone and everything around them is telling them the opposite. He gives the example of a woman who in the middle of the therapy sessions started to hate him so much and after exploration, he found out that it was because he was the only one who didn’t accept seeing her bad as everyone did. Years later, when they met again, she told him that this was they key reason that made her have greater life. Very inspiring and very true. If we look at people and see their weaknesses and deficiencies, we will end up treating them the way we see them and consequently have their behavior justify our view of them.
How would this apply in your own life?!

“…as human beings, we are responsible for our own lives. Our behavior is a function of our decisions, not our conditions. We can subordinate feelings to values. We have the initiative and the responsibility to make things happen.” Stephen Covey
(Continued from Part 1)
This was when I started to experiment with self responsiblity in most dimensions of my life. From relationship, to work, to continuous learning, to taking care of my body and health. I started building up creating new habits by replacing bad ones with good and empowering ones.
I got so excited and committed to wake up early every morning (even on weekend at the beginnings to make it a habit). I can recall how tough this was as I, (like most of us), have always believed that I am not a “morning person”. I got inspired by the idea of reading and learning something new every single day. I started to use a journal to reflect on my own experiences and challenges. I went on to nurture some traits within me like gratitude and start listing things I am grateful for everyday. I took up sports although I was the kind of person who almost never moves.
The list could go on and on but the most important was that all these changes I made were simply because I believed in the power that I have instead of complaining and blaming everyone except myself. So I focused on my circle of influence as Stephen Covey (1) calls it and by doing so it started to get bigger and bigger. So most areas of my life start to get better and better and consequently became able to have more control on things which were before outside my influence.
“For your life to change you must change” – Jim Rohn
